Online Exercise Physiologist: Sessions by Video
An online exercise physiologist gives you the same assessment and program you would get in our Samford clinic, by video. It suits people coming back from an injury, adults starting strength training after 40, and anyone who lives too far away to see us in person.

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) is a university-qualified allied health professional who uses exercise to get people moving well again. We sit between a physio and a strength coach: we know the injury side, and we know how to build you back up to full training.
What an online exercise physiologist session looks like
You join a video call from home, your garage or your gym. You will need a phone or laptop you can prop up, enough room to lie down and take a step, and whatever equipment you have.
- History. What happened, what you have tried, what you want to get back to.
- Movement assessment. We watch you squat, lunge, hinge, balance, reach and step. Video is surprisingly good for this. We can slow it down and compare sides.
- Your program. Exercises chosen for you, with sets, reps, effort and a short video of each one.
- Follow-up sessions. We check how it is going, progress what is working and change what is not.
Who an online exercise physiologist suits
- Coming back from an injury. Ankle, knee, hip, shoulder or back. You have finished the early rehab and need a bridge back to sport or training.
- Starting strength training after 40. You know you should lift but do not know where to start, or the last attempt ended with a sore back.
- Living regionally or travelling. No AEP nearby, or a work roster that makes clinic visits impossible.
- Between clinic visits. Existing clients who move away or travel can keep their program going.
If you are new to lifting, our guides to strength training for women over 40 and strength training for men over 50 show the kind of program we write.
What we cannot do online
We are upfront about this. Online sessions cannot include hands-on assessment or some strength and fitness testing. If something in your first session needs a closer look, we will tell you, and suggest you see us at our Samford exercise physiology clinic or your local GP or physio.
Pain that is sharp, getting worse, or keeping you awake at night needs to be checked in person first.
From rehab to performance
Most rehab stops when you can walk without limping. Ours keeps going until you are back to the thing you love, whether that is a Hyrox race, a netball season or carrying grandkids up the stairs.
It follows the three phases we use with every client: a healthy person first, then a healthy athlete, then a healthy sportsperson. When you are ready, you can move straight into one of our online fitness programs.
