“Should I take supplements?”
This is one of the most common questions we get from parents, young athletes and adults:
Before answering, we have to first ask: Is it necessary?
As I’ve explained many times before, the short answer is often ‘yes’.
The longer answer is ‘it shouldn’t be but given our busy lives, corporations looking to maximise profits and the dwindling nutrients in our food supply, it is.”
The second question should be: Is it safe?
Again, the short answer is ‘if it’s an Australian product, yes!’
(I only know the stringent processes of Australia so cannot comment on the production in other countries.)
What supplements to take?
- Whey Protein – We’re a chronically protein deficient nation and this needs to change. Inexpensive per serve, simple and safe. (Look what’s coming up.)
- Creatine – Everyone knows the physical benefits but few understand the mental and neural benefits.
- Collagen – Critical for every collision, contact and martial arts athlete AND for those looking to recover faster or look younger.
- Gut Health – A range of products worth investigating but consider Wonder Foods PHGG or Inulin.
