Useful Amounts of Fibre Are Measured in Grams
Capsules are convenient for ingredients required in milligram quantities.
Fibre is different.
Useful amounts of dietary fibre are generally measured in grams, which can make capsules an awkward way of delivering it.
That’s one reason many gut health supplements are better suited to powder.
Take partially hydrolysed guar gum.
It can be added to water, coffee, smoothies, yoghurt or food, and it dissolves without substantially changing texture.
Powder also gives you another important advantage: dose flexibility.
Instead of immediately taking a full serve, you can begin with a smaller amount and gradually increase according to tolerance.
The same principle applies to inulin fibre.
Inulin is readily fermented, so suddenly adding a large amount can cause gas or bloating in some people. Starting small makes considerably more sense.
The best delivery format isn’t necessarily the most convenient one to carry.
It’s the one that allows you to take an appropriate amount consistently.
For fibre, that’s usually powder.
